Why being calm is important

Using the phrase ‘Calming technique’, may bring up pictures of you sitting cross legged on a mat, but calming or mindfulness techniques do not have to be meditating in a yoga pose. They can be simple habits you incorporate into your life that can improve the experience of your life and the way you respond to challenges and events that are thrown at you.

Simon Sinek a renowned motivational speaker states that…

“When you know your Why, your what has more purpose”.

The purpose of this article is to build your awareness to how incorporating calm or mindful practices into your day or week can improve the way you experience your life.  This week you can get clear on your Why and generate feelings of motivation, determination and commitment to explore habits that will create calm and improve your life.

The article following this, will share practical examples of How to bring calm into your life.

Let’s start with the…

Why it is useful to find calmness or stillness in your day.

  • It supports you to be in the present moment.
  • It stops you worrying about what is going to happen or what has already happened. Worry serves no purpose. Worry keeps you stuck.
  • It can decrease stress by supporting you to calm your sympathetic nervous system and decrease the amount of cortisol (stress hormone) released into your body.
  • It reduces fatigue and improves energy levels.
  • It improves the way you handle challenges.

But the two Why’s that resonate the most strongly with me are:

  • Adding more calmness and mindfulness to my week helps make my immune system stronger. That means I am less likely to get ill. It also Promotes your body’s natural regenerative processes, or I like to say helps to keep you feeling younger for longer.

AND …

  • It improves my family, social and workplace harmony. That means I am not snappy with my children, my husband, my work colleagues, my friends, or random people I interact with. And when my mind is calm, I open up space to create things that improve the experience of my life, my community’s life and my families life.

What are your Why’s?

What two calming benefits from the above list resonated with you the most?

Now you are getting clear on Why to incorporate calmness into your week, make sure you check out the following post for some practical examples of how to bring calm into your life (out Thursday the 9th June).
